Abstract

Temper tantrum is an emotional or anger outburst in children and often occurs in preschool children who tend to have their own desires and often vent their emotions uncontrollably. Children can cry, scream, throw things if their desires are not fulfilled due to dissatisfaction of needs, obstacles to desires, frustration, child fatigue, and children's difficulty in conveying that tantrums are a way to fulfill their needs to their parents. The research’s purpose was to determine the relationship between the parent’s knowledge level and emotional intelligence with temper tantrums at the age of 5-6 years in RA/TK Madinatussalam Hamlet XIII Sei Rotan. Quantitative research method with cross sectional study design. The sampling technique was Purposive Sampling of 71 people. Data analysis used the non-parametric Spearman correlation test. The results of the study showed that there was a significant relationship between the parental knowledge level and temper tantrums with a p-value of 0.049 (α<0.05), and showed that there was no significant relationship between the variable of emotional intelligence and temper tantrums with a p-value of 0.410 (α<0.05). It is recommended for further researchers to add variables such as father's parenting patterns, father's communication patterns and other factors that can cause temper tantrums.
